From the Pastor's Desk Time to Step Out

Time to Step Out

In last week’s Wednesday email, I reflected on that startling stat (if you missed it, read it here!):

if one person made one new disciple for Christ – who could then make one more new disciple for Christ each year, and so on – because of exponential math – the entire world could be led to Christ in just 32 (or really, 33 years)!

Wild.
And wildly convicting.

I have found myself convicted by this stat. It’s challenged me to ask myself who I am reaching out to in order to (hopefully) lead them to Christ. It’s challenged me to ask myself how we might take steps like this together as a church. It’s why I challenged you last week to

ask God to equip and use you to reach one person for Christ this year.

Have you asked God for that yet? If so, keep asking. If not, why not? Either way, stop reading (after this sentence) and ask God now.

Go ahead, I’ll wait.

The next step I’m asking you to take today is to simply pray for a person who God might be calling you to reach. It doesn’t have to be the one person (though it might work out that way).

But today, right now even, just pray for a person who God might have put into your orbit for you to reach.

Pray for God to open them up to Himself.

Pray for their heart to be opened to God’s love.
Pray for their eyes to be opened to seeing God’s presence.
Pray for their ears to be opened to hearing the good news of Jesus.
Pray for their mind to be opened to believing in Jesus as Lord.

Pray for God to open you up to stepping out of your comfort zone to reach someone like this.

My hope for you the next year, then, is that you take a step out of the norm to reach someone else for Jesus. That’s my hope for me too.

It’s time for us to start to step out like this.

And in fact, that reminds me: this Sunday, we are kicking off the fourth and final of our “Central Steps” series with “Step Out: Serving Like Christ” – where we’ll be further equipped and encouraged to “step out” of our comfort zone – and “step out” of the church and into the world – so that we can serve like Christ. I hope that you’ll join us for the next 6 weeks, and join a summer Step Group to reflect and discuss this all further.

We'd love for you to
