Awesome
You guys and gals are awesome.
I mean, God is awesome, through you.
But you’re pretty awesome too.
This past Sunday was a great Sunday. Besides the fact that a small army of folks helped decorate and beautify our building for the upcoming Christmas season, we had a handful of Central folks – along with some non-Central friends – cook Thanksgiving meals for 14 local families, totaling over 40 people. And then, on Monday, a handful more distributed and delivered those meals.
Awesome.
Here are some of the most awesome things I witnessed (or heard about) on Sunday and Monday:
I saw five women, many of whom don’t know each other well (or at all!), working together to feed people, serving God’s kingdom, peeling potatoes and cutting butter. It was a small picture of exactly how God’s kingdom works. Awesome.
I saw my own son Jonah (who is 8), pouring some sort of canned good through a strainer to help cook for those families. What’s more amazing then teaching a child to serve others by leading them in actually doing it?!? Awesome.
I heard about a girl who is part of Central Youth get excited that cookies that she helped bake and decorate would be going to those families for Thanksgiving. Awesome.
I saw churches work together to provide and cook the meals, to supply pies and ice cream, to deliver the meals (thanks Bev & Rich!), and to make Thanksgiving a better time for those 14 families. It was a message to the ‘powers’ out there that the churches are united by their love for God’s world and mission towards it. Awesome.
What I saw on Sunday and Monday was a witness to God’s love and generosity, and I saw you being “co-workers and representatives” of our God together. Awesome.
As we celebrate Thanksgiving tomorrow, I want to express my gratitude for you being awesome for following God’s call, and mostly, for God being awesome in and through you.
Have a wonderful, happy Thanksgiving.
Thank you.
